LOST ONE OF OUR MARKET FAMILY – SCOTT LINDSLEY

As most of you know that Scott Lindsley had been fighting cancer.  He went to be with his Lord this past Tuesday.  Scott and his wife, Carolyn were one of the founding families for the Cabool Area Farmers Market.  Scott loved to raise organic vegetables.  He loved to visit with all the customers that came to the market.  He offered many hints and suggestions concerning growing, marketing and cooking fresh produce.  We will miss Scott at the Market not only for his wonderful produce, but also for his love for people.  Please remember Carolyn in your prayers.  Funeral services are planned for Saturday, 2pm at the Houston Christian Church.

Cabool Area Farmers Market – Have a Happy New Year

The Cabool Area Farmers Market vendors wish you a very happy, peaceful, and profitable new year in 2011. We are looking forward to a great year. We are hoping that you will be a big part of this coming market season.

We will be having a member and new member meeting on March 1st.  If you would like to become a vendor at our market be sure to attend.  It will be at the Cabool Christian Church located at the corner of Pine and Ozark Streets in Cabool at 6PM.  If you have any questions you can contact Deb French at 417-926-4226 cell-417-259-0357 or Jack Upton at 417-254-0120.

Make your July 4th a local celebration!

Here’s an idea:  try to buy as many local items as possible for your July 4th barbecue!  Come down to the Cabool Farmers’ Market this Wednesday, June 30th, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  OR for your last minute local shopping, visit many of the vendors on Cabool Main Street Friday and Saturday of celebration weekend.

Frank will be here with sweet and juicy peaches, plums and cherries!  Make a local pie!! Or, if you’re not a baker, buy your celebration pie from Viola Beltz, who makes the best pies around.

Whip up a beautiful salad from locally-grown produce!  Between the Simpsons, Big Creek Farm and Jack Upton, you’ll find early tomatoes, cabbage, sprouts, green beans, cucumbers, squash, potatoes, onions, and much more!  Although it’s still a little early, the summer produce is REALLY starting to come on!

Locally-baked bread, cookies, cinnamon rolls and other baked goods can be found at R&M Dutch Cooking and Local Loaves.  And don’t forget farm fresh eggs for your favorite potato salad recipe!

Come see us down at the pavillion and take on the July 4th Local Food challenge!

Starting the year off right!

We’re off to a great start with our first two weeks of market!!! We’re glad to see some return customers, some faces from outside of town, as well as some new faces.  Although we aren’t into the heavy season of lots of vegetables, we are seeing some great variety of starting plants, as well as some innovative ways for you, the consumer to start your own “kitchen garden” at home.

The Lindsleys from Big Creek Herb Farm have hanging baskets full of a variety of herbs, which you can harvest right from your own backyard or patio.  They also have already sold out of their hanging lettuce baskets, but you might come and consult with them about how to start one of your own!

Come on down to the pavilion and get off to a good start for the 2010 growing season!  We’ll be here waiting for you to answer all of your local produce questions!
